NON-MASKING SMS

Non masking SMS in Bangladesh: the simplest, cheapest route

Non-masking SMS is sent from a regular number rather than a brand name, and it is the lowest-cost way to reach every mobile network in Bangladesh. Every GotiSMS account includes a default non-masking sender, so you can start sending as soon as your wallet has balance.

Lowest cost per SMS

Indicative rates from ৳0.18–0.25 per SMS, with a 10,000 SMS minimum.

Works on every network

Grameenphone, Robi (incl. Airtel), Banglalink and Teletalk.

Ready on day one

A default non-masking sender comes with every account. No approval wait.

What is non-masking SMS?

With non-masking SMS, your message is sent from a regular phone number instead of a brand name. The recipient sees a number in the sender field, and your business name appears in the message text itself.

It is the most straightforward type of SMS in Bangladesh:

  • It works on every operator: Grameenphone, Robi (including Airtel), Banglalink and Teletalk.
  • There is no sender ID approval. Every GotiSMS account gets a default non-masking sender automatically.
  • It is the lowest-cost route, which makes it ideal for high volumes.

The trade-off is branding. Because the sender is a number, it is good practice to start or end each message with your business name, for example "From Lakeview School:".

When to choose non-masking

Non-masking SMS is a strong choice when reach and cost matter more than a branded sender:

  • Large announcements to tens of thousands of contacts, where the price per SMS adds up quickly.
  • Schools and coaching centres sending notices, results and fee reminders to guardians who already know the institution.
  • Internal messages to staff, agents, drivers or field teams.
  • Getting started quickly while your masking sender ID is waiting for approval.
  • Small businesses and NGOs that want SMS reach on a tight budget.

If your customers expect to see your brand name, for example for banking alerts or e-commerce order updates, masking may be worth the extra cost. Our comparison of masking vs non-masking SMS helps you decide.

Non-masking SMS pricing

Non-masking SMS is indicatively priced from ৳0.18–0.25 per SMS, with a minimum purchase of 10,000 SMS. The exact rate depends on traffic volume, route and operator mix, so higher-volume senders can usually expect the lower end.

Billing is per SMS part, so a 200-character English message counts as two SMS. You pay from a prepaid Taka wallet topped up with bKash, bank transfer, cash or Send Money. See pricing for details.

Non-masking as a safety net

Non-masking is not only a budget option. It also acts as a fallback for masking traffic. If a masking sender ID cannot reach a recipient's network, GotiSMS can deliver the message through non-masking instead, so important updates still arrive.

This is useful for messages where delivery matters more than the sender name, such as delivery-time notices, appointment reminders or service outages. Your delivery reports on the Campaigns page show the result for every recipient, so you can see exactly what went out and when.

Writing effective non-masking messages

Since the sender field shows a number, the message has to introduce you. A few habits help:

  • Name yourself first. "Lakeview School: Tomorrow's class is cancelled due to rain." Recipients know who it is from immediately.
  • Keep it to one part. Stay within 160 characters in English or 70 in Bangla to pay for a single SMS. The live counter on the compose screen shows the part count as you type.
  • Avoid emoji. A single emoji turns the whole message into Unicode and cuts the limit to 70 characters.
  • Include one clear action, such as a short link or a phone number to call.
  • Respect the time window. Promotional messages go out only between 09:00 and 21:00 Bangladesh time, after operator approval of the text.
